Reminiscing: Pi Day

Apple Crumb Pie SliceIt was only a handful of years ago that Pi Day in my house meant a guaranteed call from a teacher at Blanchard Elementary, asking if it would be possible for me to send in pies to help celebrate this math-focused holiday with the kids.

The kids would barrel into the house, slam their backpacks on the kitchen table, and confirm the need for pies.

We would quickly talk not about the relevance of Pi Day, but about a much more important topic: what kind of pie did they want me to make.

The next part of the conversation focused on what kind of pies they liked to eat, the fact that their friends don’t even like pie, that ‘Bobby’ thinks his mother is a better baker than me and he doesn’t like anything I make, that the teacher said that his/her favorite was key lime and maybe I should make that kind, but there’s a citrus allergy in their class so no key lime pie and could a cookie pie work instead of a real pie? Moments later, the kids were gone, the kitchen was strewn with their stuff, and I was left with the task of figuring out what kind of pie to make.

Key Lime Pie

Jacob always asked for Lemon Meringue Pie, which happened to be the one pie I didn’t typically make. I feel like I actually made it for him one year, but will have to double check with him to see if I’m correct.

Funny how something so simple as 3.14 brings up memories from elementary school. Enjoy the day & have some pie.

Wry commentary on running a business. Loving (if slightly sarcastic) parenting advice. And if that doesn’t interest you, I have dogs. Cute ones.
